FREE FROM THE FREEZE

There are certain things we like to be frozen. Ice cream, for instance, especially when the temperatures outside start to sizzle. We like ponds or rinks to be frozen in the winter when we want to skate. We like our water frozen when we want chilled beverages, and we even like children’s films with the title.

And sure, there is something vastly convenient and great about frozen foods sometimes. Quick and easy dinners often come in a frozen form, as do crowd-pleasing appetizers or simple vegetable side dishes. But when it comes to your sausage, frozen is not always the state you are looking for.

Frozen Versus Fresh

So what do you look for when shopping for sausage? Quality and flavor, of course, but what about freshness?

In the world of food, the term “fresh” has a very broad definition. Federal regulations allow food labels to utilize the word “fresh” even if the product has been previously frozen, a practice that many companies take advantage of.

Uncle Charley’s sausage, however, has never been frozen. Our products go from farm to store within a matter of days – three to be exact! In fact, people who have attempted to freeze our products after purchasing them have reported that once thawed, the meat takes on strange consistencies.

This is because we refuse to add unnecessary preservatives into our meat – preservatives which would help retain the meat’s texture after freezing. We choose quality and freshness over the ability to freeze our sausages because we think it makes for a better product.

So You Want To Freeze It Anyway

Is it still possible to freeze Uncle Charley’s products? Well of course it is, as long as you do so in the proper manner. Follow these steps below to help retain the best quality possible:

  1. Remove the product from its original packaging. Make sure you are are freezing your sausage either on or before the Sell By Date.
  2. Double-wrap the meat in plastic wrap – or even wax paper – and place into a plastic freezer bag (we do not recommend using a paper towel, as it will stick to the meat when it unthaws and prove very difficult to remove).
  3. Write the date on the outside and make sure to use within 3 weeks. Uncle Charley’s products are not designed to say frozen for extended periods of time.

When you’re ready, we recommend allowing your frozen Uncle Charley’s to thaw in you refrigerator for at least 12 hours. It might sound like a long time, but this is the safest and easiest way to defrost meats.

So whichever product is your favorite – from grillers to breakfast to patties – make sure that you’re enjoying them as freshly as we intended you to, or are taking the right steps to keeping that great quality in tact.
