It’s nearly National Beer Day! While you may not be able to head to your favorite brewery, you CAN still celebrate at home – in fact, we strongly encourage it! To make it even easier to do this homebound beer celebration, we curated a couple of recipes to check out 😏

Slow Cooker Spicy Sausage and Beer Cheese Dip

This delicious recipe will let you fill your house with the incredible smells of Uncle Charley’s Sausage, beer, AND cheese for hours while you do some spring cleaning, read a book, or binge-watch yet another Netflix true-crime series. Talk about a good day! 😍

Ingredients

½ a package of Uncle Charley’s Hot Italian Sausage
1 small green pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped)
1 small onion (finely chopped)
4 garlic cloves (minced)
12-ounce beer of your choice (preferably a darker brew)
6 cups shredded cheese (we like Monterey Jack!)
1 8-ounce cream cheese block (cut into cubes)
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp Tabasco sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

In a large skillet, cook Uncle Charley’s Hot Italian Sausage, green pepper, onion, and garlic over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, or until the sausage is fully cooked and the vegetables are softened.
Drain the excess fat, then pour the sausage and vegetables into the slow cooker.
Add the beer, shredded cheese, cream cheese, Worcestershire and Tabasco sauces, salt, and pepper over Uncle Charley’s Sausage and vegetables. Stir to combine evenly.
Cook dip on low for about two hours, or until fully heated and the cheese is melted. You can leave on the heat for longer if you want!
Serve up your Spicy Sausage and Beer Cheese Dip with some hearty bread and, you guessed it, more beer! 🍺

Brewed Hot Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

This tasty recipe is quick, tasty, and makes for GREAT leftovers – what more could you ask for?! It has some great kick to it that just amps up when you reheat it – we almost like it better the next day. 😏 We can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

Ingredients

1 package Uncle Charley’s Extra Hot Italian Sausage (sliced)
3 red bell peppers (sliced)
2 green bell peppers (sliced)
2 large red onions (sliced)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
2 12-ounce bottles/cans of beer (your choice!)
3 tbsp olive oil
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
3 tbsp fresh cilantro (chopped)
3 tbsp fresh oregano (chopped)
2 tbsp hot sauce
Salt and pepper (to taste)

Directions

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, adding your Uncle Charley’s Extra Hot Italian Sausage and sauteing until browned. Remove the sausage from the pan and set it aside.
Pour one bottle of beer into the skillet and scrape any charred bits from the bottom before adding the red and green peppers, onion, and garlic to the skillet. Stir in the remaining beer, hot sauce, and tomato paste.
Add your chopped oregano, cilantro, salt, and pepper, continuing to stir.
Cover and simmer over medium-low heat until the vegetables are tender, then add the Uncle Charley’s Extra Hot Italian Sausage back into the skillet.
Serve your Brewed Hot Sausage, Peppers, and Onions over some rice with more beer! Talk about a quick and easy meal to please everyone. 🙌

Breweries to Support

With COVID-19 closing many businesses down for a bit, it’s a great idea to try to find a local brewery to support! Lots of Pittsburgh breweries are using curbside and delivery service to sell their brews in a safe way. Here are a few to choose from! Be sure to check their Facebook pages for details on how to order and when to pick up.

Hitchhiker Brewing (Mt. Lebanon location only)
Cinderlands Beer Company (Strip District Warehouse only)
Dancing Gnome Beer
East End Brewing
Roundabout Brewing
Eleventh Hour Brewing

We hope you have a great National Beer Day and are able to support your local breweries! Enjoy that good food, cheers! 🍻
