4TH OF JULY RECIPE SPREAD
NEWSEvery year, you outdo yourself from the year before for the best 4th of July spread. This is your year to get even craftier with your patriotic picnic! Here are a few things you definitely need on your table this 4th of July holiday.
American Flag Fruit Skewers
These fruit skewers are a staple at 4th of July parties. Using blueberries, bananas, and strawberries, create an “American flag” on a large tray.
Sausage Pigs in a Blanket
Use Uncle Charley’s Maple Breakfast links to make a perfect pigs in a blanket. The crescent roll recipe we use also includes a bourbon-maple glaze that goes perfectly with our sausage. If you’re feeling really moved, cut your crescents into a star shape and serve with a toothpick.
Onions, Peppers, and Sweet Skewers
Switch up your regular skewer with red peppers, white onions, and our Sweet Sausage. Cut all ingredients into chunks and put into a large bowl. Pour oil and seasoning over everything and toss to combine. Thread onto skewers. Once you’re ready to make, place them on the grill and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning throughout cooking.
Red, White and Blue Potato Salad
We like red, white, and blue potato salad because it’s totally different than your typical potato salad with mayo or vinegar. All you really need are red skin, white, and blue fingerling potatoes. Roast them with olive oil at 450 degrees. Once they are tender, add chopped shallots, chives, and parsley (and of course, salt and pepper), and lots of grated lemon peel. Dress it up with some EVOO and freshly squeezed lemon.
Corn on the Cob
Although this recipe is Mexican, we know how to dress up this street corn to add to your spread. Elote is Mexican street corn, rolled in crema. We suggest after grilling and browning the corn, drizzle with crema. Sprinkle cayenne and chili powder onto corn while turning it, and then roll the bottom half in crushed up blue corn tortilla chips. Serve with lime.
BONUS RECIPE TO WASH IT ALL DOWN: Red, White, and Blue Soda
Create your own beverage celebrating the flag with cranberry juice, pina colada flavored drinks (try white Sobe), and Blue G2 Gatorade. First fill the cup ¼ of the way with the cranberry juice, add ice. Using the back of a spoon, pour in your Pina Colada drink to sit on top of the red layer. Do the same thing with the Gatorade. Garnish with a straw and serve. If you want to add a kick to it, add a splash of rum or vodka to the first layer.
What would you add to our 4th of July recipe spread?
